It Was for Me

It was for me, Jesus left Heaven’s glory

For me, He stepped down from His throne

Wrote Himself into redemption’s story

From Lord of lords, to an embryo

Creator of all became the created

He took on flesh and felt my pain

He walked among men, rejected and hated

Promised Messiah, lamb to be slain

He healed the sick and fed the hungry

Ate with sinners and washed their feet

He raised the dead, and loved the lonely

Made empty, fractured lives complete

It was for me, He faced temptation

Yet, remained perfect and free from vice

Gave up His life for my salvation

For all, a sinless sacrifice

For me, He cried out in the garden

“Not my will, but Thine be done”

In silence, suffered when they harmed Him

Crucified, God’s only son

Of me, He said “Father, forgive them,”

While his life’s blood drained away

He paid in full and sealed my pardon

The debt I owed, but couldn’t pay

How could I think He doesn’t love me?

No matter what my lot may be

He proved His love that day on Calv’ry

Amazing grace—it was for me!
