I Didn’t Know

I didn’t know

I didn’t know I’d miss the soft snore coming from your side of the bed

I didn’t know I’d miss the morning breath that kissed me awake

I didn’t know I’d miss the whiskers in the sink

I didn’t know I’d miss the t-shirt slung over the chair

I didn’t know I’d miss the mass of keys on the counter

I didn’t know I’d miss the size 13 shoes by the door

I didn’t know I’d miss the slurping sound of cereal being eaten

I didn’t know I’d miss the off-key singing and the made up silly songs

I didn’t know I’d miss sports talk on the radio

I didn’t know I’d miss hearing, “Mooooommm!” because Dad is antagonizing again

I didn’t know I’d miss the smell of your deodorant

I didn’t know I’d miss the daily, “Have you eaten today?” text

I didn’t know I’d miss the crunch of tires on gravel every evening

I didn’t know I’d miss washing your cup

I didn’t know I’d miss the damp towel hanging next to mine

I didn’t know I’d miss the pile of clutter on your nightstand

I didn’t know I’d miss fighting over the sheets

I didn’t know I’d miss every single thing about you

Now, I know
