Satan seeks to sift you;
He relentlessly demands
To pound and press and shake your faith
Until you cannot stand.
The sifter watches closely;
He cannot read your mind,
But if you let him in the door,
Your weakness, he will find.
Still, he is not your master.
When this threshing time is through,
Not one true kernel will be lost,
Although he winnows you.
Perhaps he doesn’t realize
The sifting’s for your best:
To separate the chaff from wheat,
The treasure, from the rest.
The sifter and his sifting ways
Can never thwart God’s plan.
This evil, meant to break you down,
Turns good in Abba’s hand.
Throughout this trial, there may be times
Your faith is pressed to dust,
But Jesus intercedes for you.
He’ll resurrect your trust.
Then, when the sifting’s finally done,
You’ll stand before your friends,
And with the comfort you’ve received,
Restore and strengthen them.
When crushing comes—and it will—
Remember, Jesus knows,
and He is praying, even now,
That you’ll come forth as gold.

Oh, friend, the sifting is excruciating, there’s no doubt! But it is also necessary in order to separate the chaff from the wheat. Father knows what He’s doing.
Though we be utterly cast down, we will not be destroyed, because He holds us in the palm of His hand.

Grain for bread is easily crushed, so he doesn’t keep on pounding it. He threshes it under the wheels of a cart, but he doesn’t pulverize it.
Isaiah 28:28
“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”
Luke 22:31-32
