Remind Me That I’m Not Forgotten

Today
I feel
Useless.
Hopeless.
Unwanted.
In the way.

Not self pity
Just the awareness
That life as we know it
Keeps going on.

Some of us
Are left behind for a while.
Like missing the last bus
Out to happiness.

So now we wait for the next one.
I’m in the queue
But not really
Looking forward
To the journey.

Window seat?
No.
I close my eyes
I’ve seen enough.

Enough pain
Enough heartache
Too many tears.
The bucket is full
The bucket list
Is useless to me now.

This journey is painful
Uncertain
Who knows
What the next stop will bring?

Please let it be
Joy holding
A bunch of daffodils
For me.
Or a yellow ribbon
Tied around the tree
To remind me
That I’m not forgotten.

Poem by Noey Hackney
(my dear friend and fellow pastor’s widow)

Because I know she’s not the only one sitting at a bus stop, praying for a yellow ribbon… 💔

But God…
