It’s Not About Job

There is a common misconception that the book of Job is about a patient man suffering well. And if the book ended in chapter 2, I might be inclined to agree with that. But there are 40 other chapters that say otherwise.

Since the death of my daughter in March of 2000, I have read and reread this book dozens of times, and here’s what I’ve found:

The book of Job isn’t about Job at all. It is about the patience of God in the midst of man’s suffering. The struggle isn’t pretty. It can’t be wrapped up neatly with a pretty bow. It is ugly and messy and clothed in tattered rags with oozing boils. And that’s okay.

Because it is also clothed in the soul-cleansing blood of the Lamb. And He suffered well for us all.
